Xiaomi have been around since 2010 and as of 2013, boasted sales of 18.7 million smart phones. Although they do not directly export to the US and Europe they still struggle to keep up with demand for their products. Their latest offerings show the Chinese authorities indifference to intellectual property, but they have produced two excellent phones at very competitive prices.
The Mi4 is Xiaomi’s flag ship and bears a striking resemblance to the iPhone. It runs on a skinned version of Android named “MIUI” (me-you-eye) which operates more smoothly than a standard Android OS. MIUI is available for download and can be flashed to a number of Xiaomi’s competitors such as Samsung and LG. The beauty of the Mi4’s is its rigidity. Based on a steel frame which is chamfered with small bezels, it feels beautifully constructed and is a match for any main stream phone.
The popularity of the 4-inch form factor has seen Apple come up with a new Smartphone to replace the iPhone 5S. The introduction of the iPhone 6C and the iPhone SE (special edition) is expected to attract massive sales more that it was seen with the iPhone 5S.
